Trials & Tribulations of becoming a smaller Potato

This past Weekend

I weighed myself yesterday, Sunday, and there was no change; no weight loss. At first I was a little disheartened but then I told myself this is okay, I haven’t gained anything and I am due to get my period in about 4 days… so there could be water retention.

I intend on powering through this and hopefully next Sunday I can see some results.

I have also decided to increasing my walking as I wasn’t too thrilled with how little I did last week, averaging 6000 paces per day. I want that up to atleast 10,000 per day.

I also need to re-focus myself with regards to food. Last night I made a low-carb/non-lactose chicken curry. I bought 1kg of skinless chicken breasts yesterday and threw them into a pot with one onion, 3 cloves of garlic, one 16oz tin of chopped tomatoes and a lot of curry powder.

Today I have had, so far:

Breakfast – 3 rashers of bacon, 2 large eggs fried with mushrooms, onion, tomato and green pepper

Lunch – 2c salad (with tomato, cucumber and a small splash of italian dressing), 1c curry with 2c steamed cauliflower

Dinner – my mom is taking me out, but I get to choose where, so I’m thinking Le Marche as I could get some roasted chicken and salad or steamed veggies there.

July 17th – evening

I couldn’t find my bathing suit so I had decided to go in search of a new one at the Eaton Centre. Sears Canada doesn’t seem to carry anything above size 16 unless the woman has huge tits – which I don’t, I’m a happy little B-cup. I went to Bikini Village and of course there was nothing. Addition-Elle had closed their store at the TEC and I wasn’t prepared to walk down to it after walk up to TEC. I found it disheartening to not be able to find anything. Does the vast majority of the retail world believe that fat women don’t wear bathing suits? That we don’t enjoy frolicking in the water?

I didn’t buy anything. Got home and went through my stuff and found my old bathing suit.

On to my dinner – I hadn’t prepared anything ahead of time, nothing was defrosted and I didn’t want to give in to the temptation of making some pancakes. Instead I was good and made myself a mushroom and tomato omelette.

I have also started to track how many steps I take in a day. Yesterday I did 7,500 steps and today it was 9,200 steps.

I’m currently waiting to hear from Diresquirrel with regards to an outing to a beach tomorrow.

July 17th

I’m feeling slightly content, not completely, but I’m still in a good zone.

Woke up this morning and had my 2 eggs scrambled with onion and mushrooms, and 4 rashers of bacon. Lunch, which I just finished, was 2.5c of cauliflower (I found yesterday that 2c didn’t satisfy me and I was quite famished by the time I had dinner), with some curried chicken.

Not sure what to do for dinner. Diresquirrel, who had been staying with me for several days was doing all the cooking. He’s gone as of this afternoon so I don’t have my “personal chef” anymore. I think I’ll just do a quick and simple stirfry.

Neris & India suggest purchasing certain supplements, but I haven’t done that yet and I’m not quite sure if I will. They recommend chromium (200mcg chromium polynicotinate), coenzyme Q10, vitamin C tablets and a multi-vitamin with no iron. I do take a multi-vitamin each day, mostly because due to my lactose intolerance I am not getting enough of the necessary nutrients for my bones through my regular eating habits.

I know it has only be a slightly more than 24 hours since I started this diet, but I am feeling a certain looseness around my waist, in my trousers.

I started this diet at 255lb,  standing at 5′5″. To not dishearten myself I should keep myself to only stepping onto the scales once a week. I think I shall do that on Sunday.

Dinner on Day One

I went to a pub moot and I have to admit it was with trepidation – what would I have for dinner?

I ended up getting some prime rib with yellow wax beans and some roasted potatoes. I shouldn’t have had any of the potatoes, but I limited myself to 3 segments.

For my first day I am both pleased and disappointed. Pleased that I did reasonably well, disappointed that on my first day I subjected myself to temptation.

Day One

Yesterday I went to Dominion to stock up on some necessary food, like eggs, bacon, ground meat (lean of course), celery, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, cauliflower and other fun stuff.

Diresquirrel wanted to make a curry as I have a plethora of frozen chicken bits in my freezer. Whilst doing laundry Diresquirrel made the curry… which was scrumptious, with a side of basmati rice. It was a nice curry, no dairy in it, with crushed tomatoes in it instead of cream or yoghurt.

Last night was my last “hoorah” before I start this diet.

Today:

Breakfast – 4 rashers of bacon, 2 large eggs scrambled with mushroom and some onion and herbs.

Lunch – chicken curry with 2c cauliflower

Dinner – not sure yet

In week one of the “Idiot-Proof Diet” the carb intake is low, but not as low as the Atkins or South Beach Diets. This week there is no bread or fruit, but lots of veggies and protein; my nurse should like the latter.

Starting a new diet

Filed under: diet — Tags: — opinionatedbean @ 1:52 pm

I have decided that I am a fairly large woman – shaped like a rather rotund potato, ergo the title of this blog.

The purpose of this blog is to chart my progress and to share my trials and tribulations of trying to lose weight.

I believe I shall be using the “Neris & India’s Idiot-Proof Diet” from the UK. Unlike other diet books/guides this one was written by 2 ladies who each ended up losing 5 stones (70lbs each). These are not ladies who only had a couple pounds to lose and felt they could then lecture the rest of us fatties on how to lose weight –these are two ladies who have busy careers, are mothers and wives; they don’t have time to spend 2 hours making a meal or exercising 4 times a week at 1.5hr stretches at a time.
