Trials & Tribulations of becoming a smaller Potato

Still below points – is this a trend for me?

Okey, it’s not the spectacular 2 points that I saved yesterday but nevertheless I am below points – I am one point below the regular 31 I am to eat…. yes, that’s right, I ate 30 points worth of food today. And darn it, grapes are filling.

Breakfast: 1c Corn Bran Squares, 1c 2% milk, 1 medium banana – 7 points

Lunch: 1 chicken thigh with skin, 2c broccoli, mushrooms, 1/4c roasted potato, onions – 6 points

Dinner: 85g whole wheat pasta, 1/4c tomato sauce, 3oz lean beef, mushrooms, oil (for cooking), 1oz old cheddar – 15 points

Afternoon snack – 2c grapes – 2 points

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I would highly recommend the Corn Bran Squares – they are almost like a healthy version of Captain Crunch cereal. They are for 1c 120 calories, 5g of fibre and 1.5g of fat… which makes them 2 points just for the cereal. That coupled with my banana kept me very full for most of the morning.

July 28th – evening

My came over to the office to sign some documents so that she can apply for a CPP bump up called the “Child Rearing Provision” – seems if a woman takes time out to raise her kids and her income drops significantly CPP can discount those years (up to age 7 of the child) when calculating how much CPP a person would get once they retire. My mom doesn’t get much, about $200 per month, so this is a chance to bump it up a little.

As a “thank you” my mom offered to take me out for dinner. As she isn’t very mobile, one of her legs keeps dragging a little, I chose to go to “Marche” across the street from my office building. I got some pork tenderloin, roasted, and some roasted veggies. The veggies were horrid, someone put some sort of horrible spices on them which made them barely edible. So I chose to just eat the meat and have a salad at home. Mom had some chicken and rice, but the chicken was overcooked and dry.

So dinner – 5oz roasted pork tenderloin, 2c salad, 2c cucumber slices

My pedometer showed only 6000 steps so I’m not completely thrilled in that area.

July 22nd

I’ve had a relatively good day, food-wise.

Breakfast – 1oz chopped kelbasa, 1/4c chopped tomato, 1/4c chopped mushroom, 1tbsp chopped onion all fried with 2 large eggs.

Lunch – my beef stew (using the IPD recipe) with a side of broccoli. Yesterday I purchased a bag of salad and some italian dressing, so I also had a salad.

Dinner – pork butterfly-cut, mushrooms, onion, garlic and 1c broccoli.

I had taken up Lydia’s suggestion of going to St Lawrence Market, which I did after work. I spent some time just wandering about, checking what they have. Today I purchased the pork and some “organic” bacon, which I hope to try tomorrow morning. I think I shall continue getting my meat at the Market as I can easily ask for just a single chicken breast or just 2 links of sausage.

Managed to do 6000 steps today – not the greatest, but I’m hoping to have significantly better numbers on the weekend.

I didn’t blog about this weekend, silly me.

I have found it harder to stick to this diet on weekends. That has always been the hurdle for me in whatever diet I have tried. I can be super good during the week, but once I’m home that structure from the week is gone.

Yesterday I had some carbs, I was bad, but it was 2 slices of high fibre german bread made without sugar. So I’m justifying it to myself in that it had 4g of fibre per slice and were low carb.

Breakfast – 2 rashers of bacon, 1/4c chopped tomato, 2tbsp chopped onion, 2 mushrooms chopped, 2 large eggs

Lunch -2 slices high fibre german bread, 2oz swiss cheese, 2oz genoa salami

Dinner – I just nibbled on some celery, I wasn’t really hungry

Saturday – I made a beef stew as per the recipe in Neris & India’s Idiot Proof Diet but didn’t eat any of it. I went to dinner at Lydia’s and Andrew’s and had a lovely roast beef with a tiny amount of roasted potatoes, green beans and mushrooms. Breakfast/lunch was with my mom and I had bacon & eggs at a brunch place.

Today, Monday – breakfast (I ran out of bacon) – 2oz chopped kelbasa, 1/4c chopped tomato, 2tbsp chopped onion & 2 eggs all cooked together in one frying pan.

Lunch – it’s the beef stew I made (using Lydia’s herbs). I threw in some extra broccoli this morning. Hopefully it will be good and scrumptious.

Dinner – I think it  will be chicken, I have some defrosting in my fridge as I type.

Overall I feel okay, very tired, but I think that’s down to a possible bladder infection. I feel slightly smaller, though it isn’t noticeable to most yet…. 5 pounds with regards to my current shape isn’t that noticeable, but hopefully once I hit the 10-15 pound mark peeps will see something; I’m certainly hoping to feel something :-)

I’m feeling slightly content, not completely, but I’m still in a good zone.

Woke up this morning and had my 2 eggs scrambled with onion and mushrooms, and 4 rashers of bacon. Lunch, which I just finished, was 2.5c of cauliflower (I found yesterday that 2c didn’t satisfy me and I was quite famished by the time I had dinner), with some curried chicken.

Not sure what to do for dinner. Diresquirrel, who had been staying with me for several days was doing all the cooking. He’s gone as of this afternoon so I don’t have my “personal chef” anymore. I think I’ll just do a quick and simple stirfry.

Neris & India suggest purchasing certain supplements, but I haven’t done that yet and I’m not quite sure if I will. They recommend chromium (200mcg chromium polynicotinate), coenzyme Q10, vitamin C tablets and a multi-vitamin with no iron. I do take a multi-vitamin each day, mostly because due to my lactose intolerance I am not getting enough of the necessary nutrients for my bones through my regular eating habits.

I know it has only be a slightly more than 24 hours since I started this diet, but I am feeling a certain looseness around my waist, in my trousers.

I started this diet at 255lb,  standing at 5′5″. To not dishearten myself I should keep myself to only stepping onto the scales once a week. I think I shall do that on Sunday.

Day One

Yesterday I went to Dominion to stock up on some necessary food, like eggs, bacon, ground meat (lean of course), celery, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, cauliflower and other fun stuff.

Diresquirrel wanted to make a curry as I have a plethora of frozen chicken bits in my freezer. Whilst doing laundry Diresquirrel made the curry… which was scrumptious, with a side of basmati rice. It was a nice curry, no dairy in it, with crushed tomatoes in it instead of cream or yoghurt.

Last night was my last “hoorah” before I start this diet.

Today:

Breakfast – 4 rashers of bacon, 2 large eggs scrambled with mushroom and some onion and herbs.

Lunch – chicken curry with 2c cauliflower

Dinner – not sure yet

In week one of the “Idiot-Proof Diet” the carb intake is low, but not as low as the Atkins or South Beach Diets. This week there is no bread or fruit, but lots of veggies and protein; my nurse should like the latter.
